Hi

I'm the latest person to discover incompatibility between Creative's x-Fi cards, Windows7 and "What U hear." So, I'm looking for recomendations for a new soundcard. I make a lot of video tutorials and record a lot of streamed audio so my requirements are:

- Must be 100% Windows7 compatible
- Must allow recording of "Stereo Mix" "What U Hear" or similar
- Must be compatible with USB microphone and traditional jack-mics too.

I'm out of my depth here. Creative claim compatibility with Windows7 for their X-Fi cards but me, and several colleagues, just can't get them to work as they did under XP.

I've tried all the web-wide tips of enabling hidden recording devices and configuring Audacity (http://all-streaming-media.com/edit-audio-video/Audacity-free-sound-editor-Windows-Linux-MacOSX.htm) with no luck.

What should I buy? Over to the experts....

Thanks

Barry

Many hardware manufacturers make Windows 7 compatible sound cards which come without "Stereo Mix" / "What U Hear" / "Wave-out Mix" in Windows.

Have you tried to record from your Creative Sound Card using freeware Freecorder 4 (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-audio-stream/FreeCorder-Toolbar-Free-sound-recorder-software-Windows.htm)? You shouldn't have problems recording with it in Windows 7 (even though the recording option is called "Vista recording" in it).

Other Applian products including Replay Music (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-audio-stream/Replay-Music-record-any-web-radio-station-or-streaming-music-service.htm), Replay AV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm), Replay Video Capture (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/Replay-Video-Capture-Make-high-quality-recordings-from-anything-you-see-on-PC-screen.htm), Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) can also record from your sound card even if it doesn't have the "Stereo Mix" / "What U Hear" / "Wave-out Mix".

You can also install Linux like Ubuntu onto your computer. You shouldn't have any problem recording sound with it.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I already have Freecorder for internet use but the problem is bigger than this. I use Camtasia screen capture software for video tutorials and it needs the "What U Hear" setup too.

Ok... If you use create simple video tutorials, you can use Replay Video Capture (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/Replay-Video-Capture-Make-high-quality-recordings-from-anything-you-see-on-PC-screen.htm).

Otherwise if Creative doesn't provide drivers supporting "What U Hear" for your sound card, I don't think anything can be done in Windows 7. Getting another sound card is the way to go.
