How to save Silverlight (nbcolympics.com) video?

Here is the Silverlight video I want to save:

Code:
http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/assetid=83bfe880-948a-44ed-bbcc-4ad3ec58b5b4.html
I saw an older thread on here mentioning that WM Recorder could do it. But I installed WM Recorder and it didn't do anything when I played that video. And WM Recorder worked fine when I went to Youtube, so I guess WM Recorder just can't handle the nbcolympics video.

I also read a suggestion to try Replay Media Catcher, but that won't work for me, since the demo only saves 75% of the video.

Any other way to save that video?

Re: How to save Silverlight (nbcolympics.com) video?

Silvertlight from NBC is different than youtube videos because its not using Flash 10. There are a number of tools that can rip flash 10 but not so much for Silverlight from Microsoft. The way that Silverlight differs is that its not streaming you 1 complete file its actually sending you burst data based on your connection, kinda transcoding on the fly if you will, there are tools that can capture this but when your done you may have 200 files of a few seconds each, which is useless at best, chances are they won't even be the same bitrates.

Sure you can screen record if thats acceptable to you, since you seem to be looking for a free solution try CamStudio. I haven't used it myself, but it comes up a lot when people want a free screen recorder.

screen video capture software seems to be the only option.

Re: How to save Silverlight (nbcolympics.com) video?

Hi,

Have you tried Jaksta? From v3.1.8 - Jaksta supports version 1 of Smooth Streaming Media which is what alot of videos on this site are streaming. Some are version 2 which I am still working on. In any case Jaksta will tell you if its version 2 and not yet supported.

Please read the following about Smooth Streaming Media and how to handle the resulting fragmented MP4 file.

Quote:
What is Smooth Streaming Media?

Smooth Streaming Media is a new protocol for delivering HD audio and video from Microsoft.

Smooth Streaming provides a High Quality viewing experience as the quality of the video and audio served to the client adapts to the viewers connection speed.

Jaksta can detect and download Smooth Streaming MajorVersion 1. Jaksta will download the highest quality audio and video stream available in the streams manifest.

The resulting ISMV file is a fragemented MP4 file. The only player that can play these files is Microsofts Expression Encoder 3 (with Smooth Streaming). It also allows you to convert these files into other common formats. Microsofts Expression Encoder costs around 30 USD and is available from the Microsoft store.
Send any feedback to support AT jaksta.com.
