Finding RTMP/RTMPE for a Youtube Show

I'm trying to download a show on youtube - this is somehow protected and all downloading things can't find it. For example, The Old Faithful firefox DownloadHelper can't see it. Other freeware (including OrbitPro and GetFLV) have fared no better.

I have tried using tools such as Blader, URL Snooper and CooJah to find the rtmp but they have all failed to see it. I'm pretty sure once I have the RTMPE; flvstreamer will clear it.

If anyone can find it and then explain how to do it so I could do it to other shows protected by the new youtube shows protection (eg.4od); I will be eternally grateful to.

P.S. I'm downloading this show because I've just found out that a guy who lives downstairs to me in our dorm was on this show when he was a kid! Thank you!

If you can't record it with RTMPE recorders, just record from screen with a screen recorder

Unfortunately at that length it leads to a file size so big it would be very impractical to send around (campus has very strict regulations on download/upload). Thanks for the idea though.

You don't need to record raw video. You can use Windows Media video, which is not very resource intensive for recording in real time. Also you can reduce framerate and video resolution.

Fair point, but I would really prefer to know how to get those videos off youtube on their original form. Thanks for the suggestion though.

P.S. Any idea which programs could work for this?

Not even Replay Media Catcher is detecting it, I have never seen it not grab something....

Re: Finding RTMP/RTMPE for a Youtube Show

did you try using a detailed packet sniffer like Wireshark? (I don't have it at my station i'm at to try it). It must be using RTMPE protocol?

UPDATE: I tried Wireshark and it does detect the RTMPE stream but I'm not sure how to decipher it.

I also tried CooJah and StreamTransport without luck. These are both suppose to support RTMPE........

Of course you can better quality by downloading / capturing original videos.

There are few RTMPE recorders out there. Besides the ones already mentioned I can recommend to try rtmpsuck. You will need Linux like free Ubuntu. You can use dual boot, install it onto virtual machine like free Virtual Box or even use Windows installer called Wubi (I prefer dual boot).

Downloaded Ubuntu, youtube-dl and get-flash-videos (the two heavy guns) and neither worked. I'll just use a screen recorder and get rubbishy quality then. Thanks for trying everyone!

rtmpsuck works fine with many RTMP and RTMPE streams in Ubuntu.

if you have problems with get-flash-videos, try to ask them in the dedicated forum:
