BASIC idea behind setting up a DVR Remote Monitoring System

Hey guys,

I'm a web designer. I have a client who also wants me to try to help him set up this 8-Channel DVR Remote Monitoring System so he can watch his store cameras from the internet (his house). I kinda have no idea about even the basics of how this setup works.

I know there is a sticky on the technical aspects, but could anyone just explain to me the basics of what devices go where?

I assume the DVR goes in his shop. Does the shop need to have internet service of its own? Along with its own router? Is all of the equipment mentioned at his shop and then you can just remotely view it on any computer?
