Swamp Cabbage is the electric and edgy side of guitarist, vocalist, producer and writer Walter Parks, who for ten years was the last sideman to Woodstock legend Richie Havens. Jive is a collection of seven cleverly crafted satirical sagas of life in the south and life on the road similar in lyrical style to that of Floridian Gamble Rodgers. Jive also premiers three electric instrumentals that are half-circus freakshow soundtrack and half-swamp-allachian dance. Jive was committed to two inch tape by Northeast Florida engineer/guru Jim Devito, who is also the bassist of the band and is the longtime recordist for the popular Florida group JJ Grey and Mofro. As on all the Swamp Cabbage records, New York drummer Jagoda churns an incessant New Orleans second-line groove.
