DVR connected to the internet, not able to see on my computer!

So I have connected my dvr to the internet, I can access my cameras throuh my computer and android cellphone, but only when they are using the same internet connection that the dvr. My question is how can I actually see my cameras from a different location, (see home, from work). I'm new to this sorry
