3D video: H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC Multiview Video Coding (MVC)
Multiview Video Coding (MVC) is an amendment to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video compression standard developed with joint efforts by MPEG/VCEG. It enables efficient encoding of sequences captured simultaneously from multiple cameras using a single video stream.
Multiview Video Coding (MVC) is intended for encoding stereo (two-view) video, as well as free viewpoint television and multi-view 3D television.
Stereo Blu-ray 3D releases use the Stereo High profile.
Multiview Video Coding (MVC) stream is backward compatible with H.264/AVC, which allows older devices and software to decode stereoscopic video streams, ignoring additional information for the second view.
