How can I legally watch a Canadian TV Show / TV Episode stream in the US?

It makes no sense to me for the content to be blocked, especially near the Canadian-American border, where anyone with a television and a strong enough antenna can get television signals from both countries. Licensing issues are only part of the picture. (No pun intended)
