Requiem 1.8.1 removes DRM protection from iTunes 8.0.1 .m4p files

Requiem 1.8.1 is a freeware lossless DRM removal software. It can remove DRM protection from iTunes 8.0.1 files.
Download Requiem 1.8.1
Code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/157565415/requiem_-_1.8.1.zip
Currently Requiem 1.8.1 works with Mac OS only. If you have a PC, do NOT upgrade to iTunes 8.0x. Instead, use Requiem 1.7.4.
But if you have a Mac, Requiem 1.8.1 does work with iTunes 8.0.1.

Requiem does not remove DRM from files with rental licenses... I totally understand that.

You may also have problems removing DRM from purchased (non-rental) movies. It does decrypts fine , but then you may have some problems playing your files.

Quote:
On VLC it seems to play just fine, but with an extra window displaying the movie's title.

In Quicktime it is called an invalid movie file, saying an invalid sample description was found.

iTunes refuses to add it to the library, but doesn't even display an error.

On Windows XP with Media Player Classic it says something about not being able to read some of the pins on the graph, then plays the movie... upside down...

Quote:
Somehow after removing DRM protection you get the broken m4p container. If you rename it from .mp4 to .m4v, it should play in QT and iTunes, though I had a movie with this problem, and it had a strange green line on the bottom when I played the decrypted version.
Quote:
All 8 movies I bought from iTunes have this problem... And TV series' do not.

There might also be some problems with brightness:

Quote:
Just toy around with this cool DRM remover with a couple of m4v files. It does work but I notice one thing - the DRM-free .mp4 videos are slightly brighter than the original m4v files. Why is this so?
Quote:
Same for me all my decryted video (fairplay v2) are differents in brightness and contrast, more light less contrast.
Quote:
That's not a bug with Requiem. The problem is that some videos contain additional chapter and thumbnail tracks, which iTunes and QuickTime only handle properly when the file has a .m4v extension, and which some other players don't know how to handle sensibly at all.

Re: Requiem 1.8.1 removes DRM protection from iTunes 8.0.1 .m4p files

At last I found a way to make the wave work so as to add it to the library. I dropped the file into Garage Band and exported it to iTunes and it came out as a AIFF file. I'll try Requiem now to see the difference.

Thanks for the help

Re: Requiem 1.8.1 removes DRM protection from iTunes 8.0.1 .m4p files

OK...I'm brand-new to this, so please bear with me. I downloaded requiem, and grabbed a file more or less at random with Acquisition. When I drop the file on the RequiemDroplet, I get a window that says:

sh: ./decryptAll: Bad CPU type in executable

Can someone decode this for me, and tell me what I did wrong?

Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem. It's a pity the error message isn't more informative (why it couldn't decrypt them, for example.

I don't know if it matters, but I get the error whether I use the GUI or the droplet.

Well, I found a torrent for Requiem 1.8.4, and I was hoping that it would work, but this one gives me an error that "/Applications/requiem/mac/decrypt" cannot be executed.

I get the same error as Elusis and #1 dadditude. I am running on a Mac Pro, iTunes 8 and Leopard 10.5

Re: Requiem 1.8.1 removes DRM protection from iTunes 8.0.1 .m4p files

I understand that Requiem will only decode for PCs with Itunes 8.0.1 or earlier, the problem is backing down to an earlier version of Itunes. I did so but I still couldn't decode because I got an "Itunes Library.itl" error saying the library was from a later version of Itunes. I did some more research and learned I had to switch out my library.itl file for the one with the older version but that didn't work because the .itl file was still from a later version of Itunes. Anybody figured out a way around this yet?

You can probably backup your newer library files and then just delete them from the iTunes folder.

Re: Requiem 1.8.1 removes DRM protection from iTunes 8.0.1 .m4p files

I am sure you are right but I think that the library.itl refers to the library of the videos I bought and paid for. If I get rid of them I don't think I will have access to those video files anymore and would have to go back to Itunes to get them to download them to me again. Even if the videos stay with the older version that I download they would be newer than the version of the Itunes I downloaded and thus I am back in a catch 22. In other words a newer version will not play on an older version of Itunes no matter what I do. What I need is an older version of library.itl which doesn't exist. At least that's how I see it, please correct me if I am wrong.. But thanks for the help anyway...
