Circumvent billing system while capturing streaming videos

Thanks for having me on board

Here's the thing.I just registered to an adult pay per view site which lets you watch movies online and pay by the minute.I immediately said to myself- I'm going to capture all their movies without paying too much...

I found one of the movies I wanted to see, started watching it, right clicked on the embedded player that opened---properties----copied the whole link---pasted it into wm recorder ---started recording----and immediately closed their player to avoid paying too much...

The sad part is, while I captured the whole movie(700mb or so) I was still being billed by the minutes as if I've watched it on their site the whole time!!!

I was so depressed this morning to find out they charged me for almost 2 hours of watching while infact I only watched for about a minute until the stream recorder came into play...

What I'm asking is this: Can I circumvent their billing system and still capture the videos?

Thanks for your help

Circumvent billing system while capturing streaming videos. Better avoid it.

How do they idetify you as a user? Do they use a timestamp or your login in the URL? Do they protect streams by password?

IMHO the only way here is to try to record without being identified. However it is not better than using p2p networlks. It is not legal and I strongly suggest to avoid it!!!

Re: Circumvent billing system while capturing streaming videos

Thanks for replying.

The link to the stream looks like this:

http://www.hotmovies.com/drm/asx.php...js_starttime=1

Any idea what method they are using to charge me even when capturing through WMRECORDER?

Thanks!

BTW, can I change the start time to exactly the place I want to start recording in a movie?

Re: Circumvent billing system while capturing streaming videos

The following URL is just a redirect
http://www.hotmovies.com/drm/asx.php...js_starttime=1

in the folder with recording there must be a text file with the URL (At least there were .ini files in the previous versions. Just downloaded but haven't tested WM Recorder 11 yet ).
Does the .ini file have the same URL?

There seems to be no user identifying information in the URL. It must be residing in the cookies.

I can't record anything from the URL.

As for the start time, in ADA or PRO mode WM Recorder 11 can capture anything your Windows Media player or Real Player plays.
You may also find some useful information in the following FAQ:
Start and end times of a streaming media.

If the embedded player allows you to move to some point in the video, you may try to record in the Real time mode (ADA or PRO). Otherwise create an .asx file as mentioned in the FAQ.

I've tried this and many other things but I have yet to find a way to record just one scene it always goes straight to the whole movie.

Re: Circumvent billing system while capturing streaming videos

This is tough. I don't think this is possible. When you record the stream, they don't know you're recording it...but to them it looks like you're watching it all, hence the billing for the entire length of the film. They're smarter than that unfortuantely.

If this is possible, i'm not sure how to do it...
