Question

Problem capturing feed from Discovery.com - site Flash player, MoveMediaPlayer

I'm trying to capture the stream from Discovery.com (Mythbusters) and no matter which program I use all I can get are the ad's. Although with Replay Media Catcher I get .qss files for about 15mins of recording.

Am I doing something wrong or is that an unrecordable stream? The video plays only in a site downloaded flash player and seams to be http...(video.discovery.com/player.html).

I'm thinking that I will be forced to use screen capture program.

Has anyone got around this problem? Or any advise on the best quality screen capture program would be appreciated.

You need the MoveMediaPlayer to watch their video streams. They might be using a proprietory format/protocol.

The video is not available in my country.

Have you tried to analyze URLs with URL Snooper? Can you PM me the list of URLs?

Well i'm a new member but not new to stream recording. Here's the log from URL Snooper.

netstorage.discovery.com/common/video/firstAds/DSCHPad.swf
netstorage.discovery.com/common/video/firstAds/dsc_eCommerceAd.swf
netstorage.discovery.com/common/video/firstAds/dsc_eCommerceAd2.swf
netstorage.discovery.com/common/video/firstAds/sci_eCommerceAd2.swf

And here's the URL from the header in the Site Flash Window.

video.discovery.com/player.html

I'm surprised that - video.discovery.com/player.html - doesn't show up in URL Snooper. So I'm guessing it's a new format, because I can't get it to open with anything else besides the site flash player.

I've never used a Screen Capture Program, just because of quality issues.

I would appreciate if someone could tell me what the Best Screen Capture Program is with a User Defined Area to use.

netstorage.discovery.com/common/video/firstAds/DSCHPad.swf
is not the URL of a stream. It links to an Flash .SWF object. Besides it must be an advertisement.

Re: Problem capturing feed from Discovery.com - site Flash player, MoveMediaPlayer

Ok. Well its conclusive that as of right now, there is no way to record the stream of the MoveMediaPlayer with a current stream recorder.

The program uses a new file transfer method with QSS files. While other flash programs use FLV files that can be recorded by current programs (WM Recorder).

QSS files are very small packets that provide a near-immediate, continuous and high-quality viewing experience unmatched by any other streaming video player.

The only option is to use a Screen Capture Program.

Thanks for your help Stream Recorder.
