Sorry if this is a stupid question, but can a site detect that i am am downloading protected rtmp streams using this software (or GetFLV) as opposed to just watching them?

Re: Can site managers detect that i am downloading?

Anyone?

Does rtmptdump or any of its GUI's need to send anything like a user agent that would give away that i am downloading rather than just watching a stream online?

I have access to a site connected to the industry i work in and would like to be able to watch the content at my leisure rather than stream on my pc. I’ve read the FAQ’s about legality etc, and although I’m not worried about them taking legal action, if they found out my membership would be terminated and could damage my reputation if it got out. I’ve tried to capture it, and it works ok, but I don’t find it a satisfactory solution.

I don't think you have to be afraid as it's direct downloading and they can't distinguish it from streaming.

Thanks for your reply.

Would the fact that the streams download faster than it takes to play them be a givaway?

I think they will download at the same speed as in the flash player.

RtmpDump does download faster than a streaming player. It does this by filling the buffer then sending a pause/unpause command.
Even Hulu does not block this tactic so I find it highly unlikely that most companies would even know it exists, let alone that there is a program to automate it.

I just download a 42 min programme from BBCI player in just over 5mins!

If i can find this site using google, then any content provider who is concerened about piracy (those offer films for download for example) will also know about these methods.
