Hardware for recording audio/video transparently

Guyz, is there a hardware with a DVD burner or Hard disk that can sit between say a TV and DVD player/VCR player/Sat Decorders/( or any player that connects to TV via the AV cables) and record the audio & Video streams transparently as one watches it on TV?

DVD Player/Decorder/VCR/ ========(The hardware) ======== TV

Any leads, ideas, links that can answer these are highly appreciated

Do you want to record HD videos?
Recording Cable/Satellite HD streams

Do you have HDMI out, component video out or composite video out only?

If you have multiple devices and don't want to switch cables, you may use a switch.
