Question

Improving adult VOD streams, please read

Thanks for reading this! I'm desperate to hear from ANYONE who can actually watch 1Mbps or higher adult video on demand streams without choppy stuttering pauses!!! If you can watch them smoothly, I just want to know your setup so I know how to fix mine! This is EXTREMELY frustrating.

I have a decent cable connection, about 15 Mbps, and a hard-wired desktop. I also have two laptops (one is brand freakin new), and I can connect either with a wireless router and get the same 15 Mbps. I usually just watch VOD from one site, and from this site (which I'm happy to share with you if you want), I can smoothly watch their "high" quality video, about 750 Kbps. But this quality actually sucks, so I try for the "Ultra" quality (1 Mbps). Can't do it! The video is constantly buffering, stopping, to the point where it's a bitch to watch. The site also has a "Mega" quality (2 Mbps), but of course, this is impossible.

I've tried the following from the website's suggestions: tried three different players WM, Silverlight and the website's own "classic" player; tried night versus day; tried shutting down all other bandwidth users in the house (PS3, other computers, etc), all levels on video acceleration (including 'none'), disabling firewall, disabling anti-virus (yeah, i was so angry, i reluctantly gave this a try---still didn't work); changed WM settings, changed internet connection settings. Nothing works.

Another site Ive just been introduced to claims to provide streaming speeds of 4 Mbps. I experimented a bit with this site, and again, I cannot watch any of their high-def. WHO THE HELL CAN WATCH THIS STUFF?!? Please let me know, What the hell do I need to buy or upgrade in order to watch these streaming higher-quality streams? Otherwise, pleeease tell me if you have a particular VOD site you don't have problems with watching high-quality streams.

Thank you sooooo much for your reply. I'll be happy to divulge the website's name and my ISP if you want, but I hesitate to list them on this public forum.

Please read the following:
Troubleshooting: Poor audio/video quality of a stream

Also try the following:
  • disable TCP/IPv6
  • install the latest version of your player (like Adobe Flash Player)
  • adjust MTU values

Re: Improving adult VOD streams, please read

Thank you kindly for your reply! As I said, I have the same performance issue using any one of three computers. But if I had to pick one to answer your question, I'd say I'm most surprised to be having trouble with the newest laptop, an HP Pavillion dv4-2155dx, i3 core processor, 2.13 GHz, 4G RAM. Everything is stock, but I had already updated flash, WMP and Silverlight before my original post. I don't think I've specifically tried disabling the TCP and adjusting MTU, but what are the odds that three seperate computers would all need that type of adjustment? On second thought, don't answer that, heh.

Are YOU able to watch adult streams at 2 and 4 Mbps??? Listen, my real question was this.... Let's pretend you and I are old buds, and I say to you, "say there S.R., I see you're able to watch adult VOD at 4 Mbps smoothly without any choppiness; do you mind if I ask 'What processor/speed is YOUR computer and what MTU settings do YOU use, what player with what settings are YOU using?', etc. etc." That's my real question, what are people using that enables them to enjoy these streams at these qualities? I'm starting to wonder if it's really even possible. Im guessing that if I had an amazing connection speed of 50+ Mbps and a computer with 6GHz, 10G RAM that I would still be having the EXACT same problem. Why?

I will try your tcp/mtu suggestion. Thanks again, sincerely.

Your computer seems to be powerful enough for such videos.

Adjusting MTU is not an easy thing. I've tried several Internet connection optimizers before and they were far from ideal.

Another thing is that servers that you try to access can be busy. And your Internet provider shows max connection speed which can be much lower in reality.
