Re: Audiobooks from eMusiceMusic offers low-cost subscription model allowing to sell audiobooks at a substantially lower cost than some other online stores.
eMusic's entire audiobook catalogue is available in the universally-compatible MP3 format (without any DRM protection). That means eMusic audiobook downloads play on any device, including the iPod, and can be copied to multiple computers and burned to CDs and DVDs without any confusing restrictions. |

Re: Audiobooks from eMusicEmusic has one aspect that really annoys me, as much as I appreciate being able to download audiobooks DRM free. Their most reasonable "plan" is 1 credit per month. Pretty much one book per month, and that is pretty reasonable, so far. But a few of their books are 2-credit books. Well, the publishers probably demand a higher fee from them, so I can understand why they might have to charge a little more for really popular titles. But here is the nasty glitch. They don't let you "carry over" credits from one month to another, not even one credit so you can buy a two-credit book. So if you really want a 2-credit book, you have to pay extra above your 1 credit per month subscription. And if you buy a pack of "booster credits"- in tiny mouseprint you can find (if you have a powerful enough microscope) that the booster credits expire in a very untimely fashion, too. This is, simply put, predatory. Why a business would work so hard to aggravate their willing, paying, customers, is beyond me. Except a lack of effective competition. Grumble. |
