Problem removing DRM from AZW ebook. How can I see if an AZW file has DRM?

I have an azw file that Calibre with the plug-ins does is not, for some reason is not removing the DRM, although I do not always get an error message. My question is how can I tell if an AZW file has DRM or not?

I can't seem to find anything, either via a file viewer or in Calibre, that indicates this.

Can the presence of DRM be seen by something simple and easy to use?

Thanks.

You will get an error when trying to convert DRM-protected ebook with Calibre.

What version of Kindle for PC or Kindle for Mac do you have? Or have you downloaded your ebook using Kindle reader?

What version of Calibre DRM removal plug-in do you use?

When you get an error using a DRM removal plug-in, it is always a good idea to try to use standalone DRM removal tools instead. The latter tools always give a better error description.

Re: How can I see if an AZW file has DRM

I reverted to Kindle for PC 1.4.1 and upgraded the tools to 4.6, and everything seems to be working fine at this point. I noticed that when the plug-in did not work, and when I opened the book in the Calibre Convert mode, the "input" window would only show AZW, not MOBI, as it had done previously. This seems to be a signal to me that the DRM is still in the file. Calibre would not convert these books either.

Where is a good place to get a set of instructions on stand-alone DRM removal tools, as I would like to give that a try.
Thanks.

DRM tools 4.7 are available. They contain stand-alone DRM removal tools as well as a Calibre plug-in. The readme files from the archive should provide enough information.

Also note that after installing an older version of Kindle for PC, you may need to remove Kindle ebooks and re-download them.
