GOOGLE MUSIC, or short:
GOOM, is going to be launched very soon. this thread reviews its highlights on the PC (not Android) and discusses whether it makes sense to capture their streams or not. Goom will be quite similar to other new modern music services like
Thumbplay Music,
Sony's Music Unlimited,
Rhapsody, etc. -- you can pay-per-download music tracks and there will be streaming options.
Months ago some details were
reported/rumoured and those
rumours have been
confirmed more
recently.
Since this is the
SRF, the number #1 source of information related to discussing and analyzing internet streams (audio/video/XXX
/.. ), all you need to know about Goom streams will be published here.
SRF is also a place for software coders (freeware/shareware/payware) to get feedback from users using their software products and i am sure that, after reading
this SRF-thread, some daring, audacious coders (who dont have "their origin" in the Google, Inc. territories, which is
The United States Of Blessed America) will eventually provide updated solutions to i**ega**y capture goom streams. I would expect
rtmpdump and
Terry Backer's
GetFLV in the forefront with some recording solutions by
Applian Technologies to do the trick... but at the same time i would also expect
goom to be superfluous on the market since listening to online music thru your PC or mobile gadget is an old concept and has never been proven to be a success story among anybody: neither to the content provider nor to the end consumer.
The only reason why people would want goom (and prefer it to competitors such as Qriocity, Thumbplay or Rhapsody) is because it is NEW and it is by the famous GOOGLE and all of a sudden the most famous official ITUNES competitor/rival. People who dont like APPLE or ITUNES will be proud to sign up (subscribe) to GOOGLE'S MUSIC (
goom).
I will be glad to test it and try to capture their streams. I must admit that Qriocity (Sony's Music Unlimited) was very disappointing (48 kbps streams) as was Thumbplay Music (96kbps). And Myspace (96kbps). Deezer does much better (128kbps) and Rhapsody is the uncrowned king of streaming music (128/160kbps). eMusic is maybe the very best (224kbps, LAME v3.98 encoder) but then again Emusic is not a streaming service but a monthly subscription for paid tracks downloads. Thus emusic is clearly out of competition.
Streaming sound quality. Kiddos might enjoy capturing (downloading/storing) music files in 96kbps quality .. but, in fact, the 96-specification is meant primarily for mobile phones (Android, Nokia, Iphone, etc.). If you are a PC user (or mobile MP3-player user), then you should not waste your time with Thumbplay or Qriocity.
And with Goom?
