Is there a block - diagram and directions on how to use an HDTV, laptop, source of wireless internet to view streaming media programs ( sports, Netflix..). Do we need to purchase an XBOX or PLAYSTATION or a laptop would be sufficient?

You can watch Netflix movies on xbox 360. You can also watch Netflix movies on Sony PS3. You can use standalone players for watching Netflix movies.

You can also connect your laptop to your HDTV over HDMI. If you have a DLNA compatible HDTV, you can connect your TV via ethernet of Wi-Fi and use software like XBMC to stream videos onto your HDTV.
