How to Capture ScreenShot on Mac OS X with freeware Grab application


Quite often Mac users would like to take a screenshot Mac: you find something funny or useful and want to save it as picture, take a screenshot for showing friend vivid instruction about the system configuration. There are situations when Mac users need capture video on Mac. To solve this problem you can use Grab, an application that comes with Mac OS X. Since it is part of the Mac OS X operating system, you can make a screenshot of every application that works with OS X. You can trigger Screen Capture via several keyboard shortcuts or the Grab application included with Mac OS X, which is located at /Applications/Utilities/Grab.

Grab has multifunctional features. With this ideal tool, you can capture your favorite sites easily and edit them on this tool as you like. It's available for you to partially capture any part of desktop, videos, websites or other pictures on your computer window.

Here are the useful shortcuts:
  • Take a screenshot of the screen: Command-Shift-3:
  • Take a screenshot of an area: Command-Shift-4, then select an area
  • Take a screenshot of an active window: Command-Shift-4, then space, then click a window
The screenshot will be saved as a file on the desktop, and you can press down control as well as the relative
keyboard combinations if you want to save it to the clipboard. For instance: Command-Control-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen.

Use Grab to capture screen:
  1. Open Grab, got to Capture from the menu bar and choose Selection, Window, Screen or Timed Screen.
  2. Select the window you want to capture or drag the pointer across the area and then release the mouse button.
  3. The file automatically shows up in Grab and prompts you to save it.
