The instructions on Playing DRM protected m4p(AAC) Apple iTunes files seem to be self-defeating...

It says "VLC is able to play M4P files (DRM protected AAC files used by Apple iTunes), provided that you have the user key(s)." But to generate the key, you need to "Play an M4P file with VLC under Windows on a computer which has been authorized using iTunes." So how does one get VLC to play the file the first time? There's no key, so it won't play, but somehow it generates a key.... A few extra words of clarification may be needed.

Your machine must have already been authorized by iTunes to play protected files. That means you have to play at least one iTunes Music Store file using iTunes before attempting this hack.

So an expanded list of tasks could be:

1. Be able to play iTMS-bought music in iTunes on your computer (ie get it authorized)
2. Play an iTMS-bought song with iTunes
3. Play that song with VLC
4. VLC creates a key in C:\Documents and Settings\$USERNAME\Application Data\drms
5. Move your music to your new computer
6. Move the VLC-created key to your new computer and place it in C:\Documents and Settings\$USERNAME\Application Data\drms
7. Listen to your music on your new computer with VLC

There is no right for you to re-encode or share it to other devices even you have paid for it. If you really want to enjoy these files on android phone, Windows media player, Samsung smart TV, etc. Maybe you can use iTunes DRM Audio Converter for Mac to get rip of DRM protection and convert audios from M4P to MP3, AAC, etc with lossless quality at faster speed.
