How can I record FLO TV

Hello,

I'm interested in recording FLO TV. Hope I'm posting in the right forum.

FLO TV is a service powered by MediaFLO for the United States.

MediaFLO is a mobile television technology that allows to transmit video and data to portable devices such as mobile phones and personal TVs.

MediaFLO allows to broadcast live, real time audio and video streams, as well as scheduled video and audio clips and shows. It can also carry Internet Protocol datacast application data, such as stock market quotes, sports scores, and weather reports.

The transmission is an encrypted OFDM set of QAM signals sent on a 5.55 MHz channel from 716-722 MHz (former UHF TV channel 55). The band was auctioned-off by the FCC and known as the Lower 700 MHz Block D

In the U.S., all FLO television providers offer a set of 13 basic channels:
- 2.FLO (6am to 10pm) — Original made-for-mobile reports and concerts; added in early 2010
- ABC Mobile
- CBS Mobile — Containing a mixture of sports and other CBS content
- CNBC
- Comedy Central
- ESPN Mobile TV — Frequently simulcasting live sporting events from their family of networks
- Fox Mobile
- Fox News Channel
- MTV Mobile
- MSNBC
- NBC 2Go — A mix of MSNBC, NBC, CNBC, and Bravo networks
- Disney Channel
- Nickelodeon — 24/7 children's programming

Additional Verizon channels:
- Adult Swim
- MTV Tr3s
- TLC

Additional AT&T channels:
- CNN Live Mobile
- Crackle

Can I record FLO TV from FLO TV Personal Television mobile device? Can I record AT&T Mobile TV (MediaFLO from AT&T Mobility)? Or can I record VCAST TV from Verizon which also uses MediaFLO?

Re: How can I record FLO TV

FLO TV is a very interesting, especially because it is coming to iPhones.

Since FLO TV is only available to subscribers (except for one free channel which is not very interesting, because what most viewers really need is to watch live sporting events, financial and other news), it uses some kind of encryption, so even if they use something similar to Internet audio and video streams, it will probably be illegal to break the encryption, so I don't think some kind of software for your mobile phone will be able to record FLO TV.

Hopefully the next generationof FLO TV Personal Television mobile device will have the DVR functionality.
