recording video game system on laptop

I am trying to hook up a video game system through composite and/or rf to my computer and am having lots of problems. I am using an angel usb tv tuner on a laptop with windows 7. I have tried dozens of programs and the only one that worked was Avs video recorder, but there is a 1 second delay which is no good for games. does anyone know of a tv viewer program with no delay besides dshader? dshader doesn't work with my video card for some reason.

Re: recording video game system on laptop

What software wasn't able to record from your TV Tuner and what were the reasons for that?

Have you tried Windows Media Center, Media Portal, GB-PVR, MythTV?

Have you tried to contact AVS support to fix the problem with the delay in recordings? The delay problem can be fixed in many cases without re-compressing videos. What video codec and container do you use when recording from your TV Tuner?

Re: recording video game system on laptop

I am not trying to record anything, only view it. windows media center works for a second and then says no signal, I could not get media portal to recognize the channel and I couldn't do anything with gb-pvr, it won't even let me go into live tv mode even after setting it up. Probably because I could not get it to recognize any channels for some reason, it should recognize that there is something on channel 3 but it doesn't. I could not get the a/v inputs to work with any of those either. didn't try mythTV I guess I will try that next.

No I didn't try contacting AVS support, my experience with that sort of thing is that you get nowhere, I do not see anything about a video codec or container but most of the settings are grayed out so I can't change them, I have have messed around with all the ones I can. I never would have thought that such a simple task as playing a game console on my laptop screen would be nearly, if not totally impossible.

MythTV is available for Linux and Mac OS. You can install it as a part of MythBuntu, it will probably won't be easy to install and set up it, so it is better to find out first whether it supports your TV tuner.
