Question

General information on Streaming.

I have been assigned to research doing web recorded video and audio and live broadcasting for some events. Questions, what type of hardware and operating system do I need for a server and what types of software are used for the streaming portion. I need to start with free or relatively inexpensive software until the project is out of the testing phase.

You can use freeware Icecast server for your audio broadcasts. And you can use freeware red5 server for your videos. Or you can use one of them for both. It is absolutely free and both solutions support multiples OSes.
