Just a followup ... I d/l the latest ffmpeg build (nightly, static, 27 Dec 2016), extracted out ffmpeg.exe, re-named it ffmpeg_64bit.exe & replaced the version in the iviewripper program folder & not only did that fix the stability problems but it also sped up the dls. Since iviewripper uses it's own specially named copy of ffmpeg in the iviewripper program folder, that's the one you need to update for iviewripper.
