Audials claims to use a virtual high speed dubbing sound card that is able to make digital recordings via a virtual sound card without the loss of going through the analog loophole.
This is quite a significant claim, but I've found it virtually impossible to get some concrete answers or details about this claim from audials directly...who, btw, have the most appalling customer service I've ever encountered. The links below involve people asking questions about precisely this and getting very vague responses. Not every thread is of equal value, but these are the sources that my questions are based off of, so you might be interested.
I would appreciate it sincerely if someone here was familiar enough with the program to understand how it works, and more importantly, how it is different from something like sound taxi. I think everyone could benefit from more information on this subject.
