Wish that was the case .. but I have the same issue every time I try, various times of the day .. and while ripper is doing nothing I can easily get the xml via FF. I've tried every version of ripper .. had limited success with the 1st version .. nada with every one since. Obviously some quirk with my rig &/or ISP that's causing the problem since it's working for others.
Is there (or could there be) some way one can load ripper and then load a locally stored copy of the xml file rather than trying to pull one down from the server? Using the xml/browser works for me, but it's hardly elegant. Keyword searches .. fine .. but that only works for stuff you know about .. browsing, looking for new stuff is a real pain and very easy to miss a lot. Pre-march napper worked fine.
