Keep RMP off (not recording when you go into the room), after you are in public, go ahead and turn it on, but it won't start recording, when you select to go private, it will change the page, and it will kick you out of streammate, and it will give you an error message on the file you are recording, just hit reprocess on the file, and as long as someone else is in private and the show is going on, it will start recording again.
