Why is SHIPITO cheaper: Dimensional weight (DIM factor)
FedEx, DHL and TNT use dimensional weight when calculating shipping cost. USPS doesn't use dimensional weight.
What is dimensional weight?
For example your package has actual weight of 1 lbs. But it is pretty big. Shipping company will multiply length, height and width of the package and divide it by DIM factor. The result is dimensional weight. And if the dim weight is higher than actual weight that is what they will use to calculate postage.
DIM factor concept is hard to understand for many customers.
Shipito has bigger DIM factor on FedEx and DHL shipping method
Bigger DIM factor means less charge for postage. Their competition has DIM factor of 139. Shipito has DIM factor of 166.
For example package with dimensions 36"x17"x17" will have following dimensional weight:
- Shipito 166 DIM factor: 36"x17"x17" / 166 = 62 lbs
- Competition 139 DIM factor: 36"x17"x17" / 166 = 74 lbs
For the difference of 12 lbs you will get billed for with their competition!
