When you downgrade WMP, you lose all your licenses . But it doesn't really mean that lossless DRM removal software will work.

A virtual machine is like a virtual computer. It allows to run other OSes including different versions of Windows or Unices from the OS you usually use. You just click the Play button to run another OS.

It might be easier to run another copy of Windows on a virtual machine than reboot your PC. But obiviously you need more system resources to run two OSes simultaneously.
