What stream format did you try to record?

Do you know that Windows Media Player can play Windows Media files and streams by default, but you need to install other codecs (or a codec pack) to play FLV, RM, MOV,... files?

You can also use players like freeware VLC player that come with built-in codecs and support the most popular formats.
