The DVR works fine in the local network, but when I try to access it in the Internet, the WAN IP just times out. I tried everything from port forwarding, DMZ setup, NAT but no success. I am totally frustrated at this point.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Moder routers have the DNS setting available , unfortuanally www.dyndns.com is not free anymore. It will cost $20 a year unless you try to get another provider.
the router will log in using your credentials for the account you created at dyndns and update your IP link to the HOSTNAME you created: mydvr.dyndns.com
mydvr.dyndns.com = 50.20.3.65 example your address.

Before this works , you most have the dvr online meaning , all ports have to be open and you could connect to it using your external Ip address.

The router that Comcast provide might have limitation, and will be ideal to have that under bringe mode and let a new router handle the communication, hopefully you don't have a NETOPIA router that are a headache to open ports on.
