"not licensed to you" errors

"not licensed to you" errors usually appear because content provider wants to track viewers of .WMV video files and listeners of .WMA audio files.

If you encountered this error, you are very likely running into a "one play" license. FairUse4WM only works if you have a license and doesn't have the ability (... yet ... ) to ask the servers for a new license.

The solution to this is let FairUse4WM use the license instead of Media Player by acquiring but not playing the file.

• Set your media player to ALWAYS PROMPT before acquiring a license. You should have this as your common setting anyway, because it will save you from folks using the DRM URL to deliver IE Exploits.
• Open the file in Media Player and acquire the license, but DON'T click play
• While the dialog is open you should be able to use FairUse4WM on that file. You can also exit Media Player (Click close) and collect licenses for multiple files.

A future version of FairUse4WM will probably include code to request the licenses from the server - especially if anyone happens to be handy with Wireshark and a debugger (The IBX encrypts part of the string with the server's public key - you'd need to "fix" that or otherwise extract the temporary key it creates).

If you downloaded your media files legally from a media content provider like Yahoo! Music Unlimited, Napster, Unbox, etc. simply log into your account with that service and then attempt to play the media file in the Windows Media Player. It should automatically prompt you to download the licenses to play your audio or video files. After acquiring licenses you may try to use FairUse4WM again.

If you downloaded your audio/video file from some illegal source, you can't remove DRM protection from the media file, unless you can somehow get a license from the original content provider. We do not support such activity and we won't help you to get such licenses. Please do not ask about it in the forum.

DRM protection can only be removed if you have valid licenses. And it doesn't matter whether you use lossy or lossless DRM removal software like FairUse4WM. If you don't have valid licenses then your media content is useless.

Notice: Please note that DRM removal software are intended to be used to make fair-use backups only. Although these programs can remvoe DRM protection whether you've purchased or just rented the file, please do not abuse rental licenses.
