If you're talking about Jaksta for Mac, then everything should be pretty simple. You just hit the "Start recording" button, then open your web-browser and play your streams; they will be downloaded automatically.

Using Wireshark or Ubuntu is free, but is more complicated.

The Activity Monitor can find HTTP links, but not RTMP ones.

Not sure what kind of freeware is that. Contact AVS support and ask about your problem.
Always try demo versions of the products before buying them. If they don't work, try to ask for a refund.

Also if you have Windows, there are several free applications that you can use for downloading RTMP streams.
