WM Splitter doesn't save a marked segment

Dear Lady or Sir,
After turning on the splitter and opening a file I got a dialog box asking if I wanted to use ffdshow. I tried both yes and no, but when I try to save a marked segment, nothing happens - I get the message "now splitting the sequence" and it remains on 0%.
