You may also try other
ASF indexing software. But actually Replay A/V should do this work. May be it was a small bug that will be fixed in the nearest future.

You may also try satellite TV. You can get much better recordings with it. Or you can wait until IP TV becomes better.

Personally I use
AVS Media Bundle.
All freeware solutions I know (DVDFlick,
MediaCoder, SUPER) are based on MPlayer and Mencoder. Weren't you satisfied with
DVDFlick?
