I'm out of my depth here. Creative claim compatibility with Windows7 for their X-Fi cards but me, and several colleagues, just can't get them to work as they did under XP.
Many hardware manufacturers make Windows 7 compatible sound cards which come without "Stereo Mix" / "What U Hear" / "Wave-out Mix" in Windows.

Have you tried to record from your Creative Sound Card using freeware Freecorder 4? You shouldn't have problems recording with it in Windows 7 (even though the recording option is called "Vista recording" in it).

Other Applian products including Replay Music, Replay AV, Replay Video Capture, Replay Media Catcher can also record from your sound card even if it doesn't have the "Stereo Mix" / "What U Hear" / "Wave-out Mix".

You can also install Linux like Ubuntu onto your computer. You shouldn't have any problem recording sound with it.
