The biggest problems with proxy servers is that most of the free ones do not allow to download large files and watch videos. They limit file size very aggressively.
The good thing is that there are alternatives:
How to access BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Fancast, Pandora, any other region-restricted sites
You can also use
web-sites that allow to download and CONVERT YouTube videos. Such web-sites download YouTube videos to their servers, so you can download them not from youtube, but from other servers. The only problem is that you can lose some quality when converting.
