I installed Skype 2.1.0.81 in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and I had problem with the dark menu, because the dark text was used on a dark background.

To fix dark text problem:

1. Hit the Skype button on the bottom and select "Options" (Or press CTRL+O).
2. Select "General" and under "Choose style" select "Desktop Settings"
3. Hit the "Apply" button. Hit the "Close" button.
4. Restart Skype
