Web Conferencing in Linux

Often I find connecting via WebEx and Live Meeting doesn't work out of the box.

Other services such as Yuuguu and DimDim have been tried out and works fine, but the standard tools used within the workplace is WebEx and LiveMeeting. So using Yuuguu and DimDim would not fit under the organisation's policy.

I hear that people have successfully used WebEx with Ubuntu, but through my experience I cannot see the presenter's screen. Nor can I find a way to share or present my screen.

Common web conferencing tools identified are:
  • Cisco WebEx - Cannot see the presenter's screen.
  • Microsoft LiveMeeting Web Access - Can not see the presenter's screen.
  • Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access - Good success rate in seeing the presenter's screen, with ability to control their screen. No facility for Ubuntu client to share their screen.
  • GoToMeeting - No Linux support.
  • DimDim - Does not support screen sharing under Linux (development has been slow on delivering this feature).
  • YuuGuu - Able to present the screen and also see the presenter's screen.
  • NetViewer - Linux not supported.
  • Adobe Acrobat Connect - Seems to work fine.
