You should try to install a sound card driver first.

If you have problems with it, you can use a USB headset (I use Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000).

A USB web-cam with a Mic should solve a problem with your Mic, but you can still have a problem playing audio (and hearing your counterparts in Skype calls).
