Some mms streams have a special format. Microsoft defines this format as "playlist". The "playlist" format contains multiple streams which all have the same URL therefore they cannot be downloaded individually. One stream needs to be finished playing (or downloading) in order to access the next. The "playlist" format is rarely used. The preferred alternative for Windows Media playlists is the ASX metafile.

To record the individual streams in a playlist stream use WM Recorder in PRO mode.

A particular use for the PRO mode is the PRO - Auto Recording mode. In this case the entire stream data passes through the recorder. This is recommended when recording streams that require the connection to be initiated from a web site or when web site authentication is needed. Also it is the only way to record Windows Media live playlists with WM Recorder.
