I am new on the forum and was looking for some similar answers to the original post i.e. I would like to know how tocheck the encoding/streaming quality of what is broadcasted in order to encode it at an appropriate level.

Can you however tell me how to check bit rate from a recording?

At the moment I record streaming radio or music off the internet with a capture software and an Edirol UA-1ex soundcard. I capture what comes back from the soundcard to the computer at 44.1KHz / 24 bit, stereo. I tend to encode into mp3 at 256Kbps CBR, stereo, with a Lame encoder.
