How to repair Windows Media Center files on Windows Vista

Please note that the following instructions are valid for Windows Vista only.

Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
Click Continue to authorize opening a command prompt with administrative privileges
Run the following command in the command prompt:

sfc /scannow
```
The command prompt will list text stating "Beginning system scan. This process will take some time."
Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes). This command will scan all protected system files and attempt to replace incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions
When the scan completes, the SFC utility will indicate whether or not it has found any problems and whether or not it was able to fix them.

In case you can't fix the problems with Windows Media Center with the above mentioned instructions, this can be caused by a corrupted recording schedule recording shedule data (Recordings.xml).

You may try to delete the following file

Code:

Users\All Users\Microsoft\eHome\Recording\Recordings.xml

Please note that it will clear all your scheduled recordings.

You can try to rename a backup of Recording.xml to Recording.xml after deleting the corrupted file.

If all the above mentioned doesn't help you can try to use System Restore to restore to a point prior to a date/time that the problem started. If you don't have a restore point that can fix that, you may need to try to repair/re-install your Windows Vista.
