Redistribute live stream (re-stream/re-broadcast video from IP camera)

I have an IP camera that acts as its own web server. It can only support 20 connections and it crashes pretty much daily because of this.

To get around this, I have a streaming web server set up and ready to capture the feed and redistribute it so essentially there is only ever one connection to the camera itself; the dedicated server handles the load.

Does anyone know how to capture the feed and make it available on my site?

Re: Redistribute live stream?

Well, you would probably want to look at a Screen Capture type program. That should do the trick for you nicely. :-)

Re: Redistribute live stream?

Interesting... thank you!

So these programs capture monitor output and save them to file. Say I wanted to run the camera 24/7... I guess I would run into two problems:

1) the file would grow until it ate all my disk space

2) the file would always be open and written to, making it impossible to be accessed by anything else, which would pretty much defeat the purpose.

How then would I make something like that work?

I don't think you can make it work if you wanna access your web-camera in real time.

SplitCam can clone your web-cam so that you can use it in several applications. But it might not work with IP cameras.

I suggest to try whether VLC player can re-broadcast video from your IP camera or not. It is absolutely free.

I would suggest using an external service like Streamby.com.
It's free and it converts the streams in flash and you can set streaming schedules.
Aside the unlimited number of concurrent viewers, I used it to avoid having direct access to the camera.

If you request it, you get the embed code as well.

hope this helps

You can try to re-stream / re-broadcast your IP Camera using freeware VLC player or ffstream / ffmpeg.

Maybe click2stream.com can satisfy your needs. Works pretty well for my 5 IP cameras.
