Recording Lynda.com lessons?

Ok well I have read up and have tried a ton of different screen capture or download programs and have failed up to now. Hypercam comes out with no audio and discolored. The rest fail to record it period.

Im running W7 x64.

Anyone had success?

Thank you

Re: Recording Lynda.com lessons?

I hate to sound like such a newbie, but I want to (1) record my lynda.com sessions (with exercise files) and put them on dvd. In internet connection is very spotty at times, so, can and how would I do this with WM Recorder?

Re: Recording Lynda.com lessons?

Please note that you can choose between Flash, Quick Time and Windows Media on Lynda.com. Just go to the Player Prefs in the right bottom corner and change the settings.

I've tried to record Windows Media stream in the ADA mode, and didn't have any problem with it. If you want to stay undetected, you may record Windows Media streams in the PRO mode. Note that the latter mode requires records in real time, and you need to play your streams up to the end.

If you want to stay undetected when recording flash streams, try to use the Loopback Recorder that comes with WM Recorder 14.8.

And you can also copy HTTP video streams from the cache of your web-browser.

As for DVD, what kind of format do you need? Do you want to create a DVD-Video disc? Or do you want to burn a DVD with AVI, FLV, MP4, MOV,... video files?

Re: Recording Lynda.com lessons?

Thanks so much for the follow up.

Is WM recorder the best choice (pricewise & lynda recording) for me? I have tried to compare your other products.

I guess I want "dvd-video" that I can play in stand alone dvd players.(thats all I know) I am trying to get up to speed on the adv/disadvantages for the different format you listed.

Please forgive my ignorance, I assume there is some advantage to staying "undetected". lol

I have nero 6, but bottom line, is I need some clear directions to do this. (i.e. hand holding for a minute)

thanks again.

Re: Recording Lynda.com lessons?

Try different formats and then decide which one you would like to download.

There are freeware programs that can download/capture from lynda.com, so WM Recorder can't be the best choice for lynda pricewise. For example, you can capture lynda streams with Freecorder and Jaksta Free Media Recorder.

Some DVD Players support DVD-Video discs only. Some newer DVD players can play AVI and some other videos.
If you need a DVD-Video disc, convert to it using freeware Handbrake.

Re: Recording Lynda.com lessons?

Thank you, thank you!

Last 2 Questions.

(1) I'm still not sure about what recording "undetected"means. Does Lynda have a way to find out or kick me out of my subscription?

(2) Having a hard time choosing between WM Recorder vs WM Recorder Bundle vs Replay Capture Suite. The comparison chart doesn't help too much. I guess I'm trying to find out the limitations of WM Recorder vs the other two.

You've help a lot. Thx again.

I don't know whether they do detect when you download or not, but this could be the case. When you download, a stream recorder creates a separate stream. Plus many users try to download multiple files at the same time. Obviously this is not a behavior of a regular user, so they can detect such things.

When you capture streams, they are captured from a player installed on your computer, so a content provider won't be able to see you saving your stream.

Note that the term capture can mean different things even on this web-site. Sometimes it means capturing from screen (screencasting), sometimes downloading streams, sometimes capturing from your local player.

Re: Recording Lynda.com lessons?

Hi Stream Recorder,

Unfortunately, I am unable to record Windows Media files on lynda.com using the PRO mode. WM Recorder doesn't seem to recognize that a video is running in the browser window (using IE 8 or FF 4). Perhaps I am missing something?

It does work with the ADA mode though.

Also, is there a way to download Quicktime movies while staying undetected?
