Question about recording from Xbox 360 with Dazzle DVC 100

I bought a Dazzle DVC 100 a week ago, but it won't work with my HDMI plugged in and with my Tritton headsets. So I've been thinking of another way to record gameplay...

I have the Xbox 360 cable that goes from the back of the 360, to a VGA video output, with the R/W AV cables. Now If I were to plug this in, and put the VGA cable into my laptop...is there any way to record like that in decent quality? I have Windows Media Encoder, and have been messing around with that to figure something out..but can't. The screen capture has a really low frame capture rate and the quality is just bad. Is there any way for WME to detect the 360 as a device to be recorded from..? I'm thinking there has to be a way to bypass one of those VGA 2 USB things that cost like 700 bucks.

If that's not possible...is there a way to get good quality from the Dazzle while still using HDMI? Mine is setup exactly like this:

I removed the plastic cover, so the HDMI can fit in as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by R/W cables from VGA output. The picture doesn't help much. Do you use an analog composite connection?

If I'm not mistaken, VGA on a laptop works for outputting video only.

Do you connect your xbox 360 to HDTV over HDMI? If you do, you can try to connect analogue audio/video out of your HDTV to DVC 100.

Thanks for the response

My bad if it was confusing, but I have this wire that I use when I travel somewhere to use with my monitor:

I assume I can't plug the VGA into my laptop, and record directly from the 360 using Windows Media Encoder?

That was the best picture I could find of what my setup looks like...I have HDMI plugged in, directly next to the Xbox 360 plug in..except the plastic casing is removed and it has that metal shell inside which is what is shown..allows me to have both plugged in at the same time, which wouldn't be the case if the plastic piece was still on.

So I could just keep the HDMI to my TV...then from my TV, use Red/Yellow/White into the DVC 100, and then the USB into my laptop and that would work..? I'll have to give that shot tomorrow..I'm just confused with how this works, never messed around with video recording or anything..

Laptops have VGA out and HTMI out, so you can use them for video input. You need a capture card for that.

I've checked my HDTV and it doesn't have any video out. It has HDMI in, S-Video in, YPbPr in, RCA in, but can ouput video over HDMI only. So please check your TV specs. May be it won't work.

Ideally an HD capture card is used, so you only need an HDMI splitter and a couple of HDMI cables. But Dazzle has RCA and S-Video inputs only. Let me think...

If you TV doesn't have an S-Video out or an RCA video out, then you can use a VGA to S-video adapter, a VGA to RCA adapter, or VGA to S-Video/RCA adapter. Then you can use an S-Video + RCA cables just an RCA cable.

You can also use Xbox 360 S-Video AV Cable like DreamLine S-Video/AV Cable for Xbox 360, but it can transfer optical audio only.

It seems to be pretty complicated, so you may want to ask other people.
