No audio output device is installed on HP (Windows Vista): Sound controller missing

i've been trying for months to get the audio working on my hp vista...i've tried to scan for hardware changes in the device manager...but Sound, video, and game controllers is missing....next wat???

Have you downloaded and installed the latest version of sound card driver from the HP web-site?
