Scan for DRM protected files?

Hi,

I have a query, i have obtained a lot of mp3's from friends and colleagues and some are DRM protected.

Is there a program or script to find out which are DRM protected without opening each one?

Thanks

Re: Scan for DRM protected files?

I haven't seen any DRM protected MP3 files.

As for DRM protected Windows Media .WMA audio files and .WMV video files you may remove DRM protection using lossless DRM removal software like FairUse4WM or lossy DRM removal software like Tunebite.

As for lossless DRM removal software, I don't see any problem using it for a folder with DRM protected and DRM-free files. As for lossy DRM removal software, say, Tunebite can automatically find DRM protected media files in the selected folders.

p.s. Please note that DRM removal software needs valid licenses that allows you to play audio and video files. Please use it for personal backups only.

WMV1 - Protected
WMV2 - Unprotected
WMV3 - Protected,

etc etc,

Im not sure which is protected or not, i do have the licenses. i got them with the songs.

Bump!

I have a similar issue, I have a large library and I left Media Monkey running overnight and woke up to have a long list of songs that had had DRM and wouldn't play of which i proceed to close (Oops!). I have no intention of searching through all my media to find them and was hoping there was some kind of scan/script or even a feature of MM that i have yet to discover.

Cheers in advance.

*** Sorry I didn't read your post properly stream recorder, I see the Tunebite does find the files in directories.

Also In Windows 7 it is possible to add a column in the folder directory which indicates if a specific file has protection for anyone else that is looking for a solution.

Re: Scan for DRM protected files?

I know this is an old thread, but for reference sake of anyone who finds this thread:
To view drm files by the attribute columns in windows 7:
change the view to "details"
right click on an attibute column (eg. name, date modified, time, size) and click the option 'more'
Tick the box "protected" and click ok.

You can now sort files by DRM protection by using the "protection" attribute column

Re: Scan for DRM protected files?

I don't know if this solves your problem, but it sure solved mine. A simple, inelegant way to get a full list of your music folder is to do a search of that folder for the letter a (or a wildcard might work). This will bring up a full list of every file in the folder. Use "View" "Details", and "View" "Choose Details" to include File Size and Protected.

Now you can scroll through the entire directory to scan for protected=yes. In addition, I scanned the file size to identify my crapola files.
