Installing Kindle For PC on Ubuntu 11.04 (Linux) using WINE emulator


 
Amazon has plenty of Kindle apps: Kindle for PC, Kindle for Mac, Kindle for iPhone, Kindle for iPad, Kindle for Android, Kindle for Blackberry. But Kindle for Linux hasn't been released yet. Luckily you can install Kindle for PC on Linux using WINE.
  1. Run the following in the Terminal:
    Code:
    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wine1.3
    Alternatively
    1. Edit Software Sources and add
      Code:
      add ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
    2. Then refresh the list of applications in the Ubuntu Software Center.
    3. Search for wine 1.3 and install it.
  2. Download Kindle for PC
  3. Double click KindleForPC-installer.exe to install Kindle for PC




To launch Kindle For PC from the Terminal, launch the following
Code:
wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Amazon/Kindle For PC/Kindle.exe
