FairUse4WM Error: filename.wmv does not appear to be licensed to you

Hi all
I tried to remove DRM from a protected audio video file But unfortunately it doesn't work. I got the following message
0 files converted
0 errors
1 warning
filename.wmv does not appear to be licensed to you

When I click the button finish I go back to the first step where I am asked to add files and convert them.
Does anybody know how this can be solved and how I can remove DRM from an audio/video file.

Re: FairUse4WM Error: filename.wmv does not appear to be licensed to you

You are very likely running into a "one play" license. FairUse4WM only works if you have a license and doesn't have the ability (... yet ... ) to ask the
servers for a new license.

The solution to this is let FairUse4WM use the license instead of Media Player by acquiring but not playing the file.
  • Open the file in Media Player and acquire the license, but DON'T click play
  • While the dialog is open you should be able to use FairUse4WM on that file. You can also exit Media Player (Click close) and collect licenses for
    multiple files.
A future version of FairUse4WM will probably include code to request the licenses from the server -- especially if anyone happens to be handy with
Wireshark and a debugger (The IBX encrypts part of the string with the server's public key - you'd need to "fix" that or otherwise extract the temporary key it creates).

Hi
Unfortunately this doesn't work either. I get the same message. I know that others can remove the DRM from those files.

Please make sure you have a valid license that allows you to play the media file. If you don't have one, it is beyond making fairuse backups and such discussions are not welcomed here.

I have got a valid license to play the movie. I can play it on mediaplayer without any problem But because of the DRM I can only watch it on my pc on mediaplayer and not on a portable player.

  • Set your media player to ALWAYS PROMPT before acquiring a license. You should have this as your common setting anyway, because it will save you from folks using the DRM URL to deliver IE Exploits.
  • Open the file in Media Player and acquire the license, but DON'T click play

I have more than 100 files all under the same "one play" license. Do I have to repeat the three steps for all one hundred files? If so, is there any easier method? For example, performing steps 1 and 2 and then finding all the required files in one go?

You set your media player to ALWAYS PROMPT before acquiring a license only once.

Also as mentioned above, you can exit Media Player (Click close) and collect licenses for multiple files.

It is the last part "and collect licenses for multiple files."
that I do not underastand

Does that mean that I should repeat the process for all the other files? In my case I would not be able to do that, because I can only enter the license key once, and it will not accept key anymore after that.

Sorry, but I haven't had a situation like this. It was just a quote of viodentia, the developer of FU4WM. You may ask doom9 members for more.
